This is especially true for your companions, whose lives after defeating the Netherbrain are heavily influenced by your actions, and this is revealed in the epilogue when Withers throws a party for your squad.

Lead Lae'zel on her path to ascension or break her chains.

Lae'zel is one such companion whose life at the end of your journey is altered by the choices you make. What's incredible is that a seemingly insignificant action you take in act one can lead to her living a life of motherhood and caring for a githyanki hatchling.

Githyanki is a species that doesn't go through live birth, and to reproduce, the githyanki lay eggs. Since time does not pass in the Astral Plane where they hail from, their eggs must be incubated outside the Astral Plane in the githyanki bases they call crèches.

There is one githyanki egg that you can encounter, and it's found in a githyanki crèche you may come across in Act One. If you go through the Mountain Pass, you can cross paths with a human fighter named Lady Esther, and the coordinates of her location are X:-43, Y:-128.

Talking to her, she will reveal that she's on a mission to look for a githyanki egg for the Society of Brilliance. Choosing to help her out will start the 'Steal A Githyanki Egg' quest, and while it may seem that the outcome for the egg is positive if you hand it to Lady Esther, that's not quite the case, and it'll be revealed in Act Three.

There are a few ways to complete the Steal a Githyanki Egg quest in Baldur's Gate 3, so here's what you need to know.

When you talk to Lady Esther, she'll reveal that there is a githyanki egg in the crèche nearby in the Rosymorn Monastery. This is the only githyanki egg you can come across, so you'll need to take this one in order to get it into Lae'zel's hands.

Of course, it goes without saying that you must not hand the githyanki egg to Lady Esther if you want Lae'zel to keep it. Instead, there's a way to get Lady Esther to take an owlbear egg if you still want to complete her quest.

The owlbear egg is found in an owlbear cave near the Blighted Village.

To take the githyanki egg, you'll need to head to Crèche Y'llek, the crèche stationed in the Rosymorn Monastery, which can be found in the northeast along the Mountain Pass. Enter the basem*nt of the monastery, and you'll need to find the Hatchery in the west wing.

From the entrance, you'll need to head for the hallway on the left, and once the hallway splits into two directions, take the path on the right.

Once there, you'll find yourself in a large area where a single githyanki egg is being incubated. You can either convince the caretaker Varsh Ko'kuu to hand the egg over, or you can take it by force by wiping out the githyanki in the room, but either way, you must keep it safe until the end of your journey.

To get Lae'zel to become a mother figure to the githyanki child that hatches from the egg, you'll need to make sure that the githyanki egg is in her inventory before the final fight with the Netherbrain. That way, it'll be with her after the last events unfold.

Keep in mind that Lae'zel needs to be alive by the end of the fight with the Netherbrain.

Before then, you can store the egg back in camp so that you don't have to worry about the additional carry weight it gives you. Nobody talks about the egg apart from the Steal A Githyanki Egg quest, so it's a very pleasant surprise that Lae'zel caring for the newborn githyanki could be an outcome.

Should You Let Lae'zel Keep The Githyanki Egg

Baldur's Gate 3: How To Get Lae'zel To Raise A Githyanki Egg (5)

Having Lae'zel keep the egg is the most positive outcome for the githyanki hatchling out of all the possibilities in the story. This is also a great reflection of Lae'zel's character development after your journey together, even though the effects of your choices won't be revealed until the epilogue.

  • If you're in a relationship with Lae'zel, you'll find that you're raising the young githyanki together.
  • If you got Lae'zel to stay with you after defeating the Netherbrain, you'll find out that the hatchling is being cared for and is named Xan. The name she gave him means "Freedom", and it's inspired by the freedom she has found on her journey with you.
  • Lae'zel has left it in the care of people she trusts, and she has decided to let him choose his path just as she has.
  • If Lae'zel ends up in the Astral Plane instead, you'll be told that she has left the hatchling in the care of a group called the mages of Xamvadi'm. She will also tell you that she still named him Xan and plans to allow him to forge his destiny.

However, if you don't have Lae'zel keep the githyanki egg, there are a couple of possibilities:

  • You can crush the githyanki egg instead, much to Lae'zel's displeasure.
  • You can give the egg to Lady Esther, but it will end up becoming a murderer.
  • You can keep it in your inventory or leave it at the crèche, but it will not be mentioned in the story any further.

If you're doing a run for a morally good character, you should ensure that Lae'zel has the egg by the end, since that will ensure the best future for the young githyanki.

Giving Lae'zel the egg also gives you a fitting ending if you're romancing her. It will give you a sweet, unique dialogue with Lae'zel at the party of Withers in the epilogue, and you'll be acknowledged as her co-parent.

Also, if you're after the approval of Lae'zel, it goes without saying that you should have the githyanki hatchling's best interest at heart. She will disapprove of you handing over the egg to Lady Esther, and she'll also get upset if you choose to crush the egg.
